Hmm. iPhone decided it couldn't talk to the carrier network any longer. Forced reboot brought it back. Hoping it's just a one time thing and not a "hard reset the phone" thing like I've been forced to do in the past.

so android users clamor for change while iphone users fear change?

@skematica welcome back to the US!

Yep.

So the heart icon mimics that tap thing in the Apple watch I guess? Which seems to be just an animated gif when sending across SMS/MMS.

I've been able to determine that the app store icon let's you send animated gifs? Um okay…

They shrunk the text field down and crammed an app store icon, some stupid heart icon, and a camera icon nice an big. Assuming people don't want to actually type text messages in their text messaging app.

Okay well thus far it seems the horrible iMessage UI and the non-functional settings toggle for Home Control on the lock screen are my only complaints. I'll tollerate iMessage for now and hope they fix it with an update at some point. Or I'll just switch phones again like I tend to do anyway.

WTF is the point of having a toggle that won't let you toggle it off?

Wow, iMessage is annoying (even with me having the service disabled).
