@kdfrawg Telegram is pretty decent and I do use it some. But I'm not 100% about the infrastructure so I don't have a lot of trust in their security. Matrix is open source and decentralized which is why I prefer it over other chat platforms these days.

Matrix bridges very nicely between IRC, Slack, and other networks as well. I've been lurking actully in #indieweb via matrix actually.
